August September 2008: News - Brooklands School

This has been such a busy term and there are lots of successes to share with the community.  Our Year 6 pupils have had their residential trip to Lincolnshire, which meant abseiling, kayaking, archery, quad biking and much, much more.  This seemed a very fitting way to reward them for all their hard work in preparing for their end of Key Stage tests, we are really pleased with their fantastic results and they have been a real cause for celebration at Brooklands.

We have also launched our library as a lending library for our pupils.  This launch was marked by two visitors in school.  The author Hannah Giffard joined our younger pupils for a workshop session around the creation of her character Pablo, the little red fox.  Richard Burns the poet created prose with our older pupils through workshop sessions.  Thank you to all parents and staff that supported the event.  We have started a scheme where friends of the school can donate funds to buy a sponsored book in our library.  We have a list from which you can choose and the book will be dedicated to you for a special occasion or event of your choice.  This dedication will appear on a bookplate at the front of the book.  If you would like to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or any other occasion in this way please pop into our school office to select a book or find out more.

For the second year now the school exhibited at the Tendring Hundred Show, our theme for this year was, from Haywain to High tech.  The children enjoyed producing various artwork to be displayed. I noticed lots of familiar faces in the crowds and I'm sure they were glad to see their efforts displayed in the education tent.  I hope some of you managed to see us represented.

As our year comes to a close we say our goodbyes to our year 6 pupils and wish them all the best for the future, they have been a year group to look up to for the rest of the school and we shall miss them.  We at the same time look forward to the arrival of our new Foundation Stage pupils, they have already had two very successful induction sessions and staff have enjoyed visiting them in their current local settings. We wish all our pupils, their families and the community a happy summer.

Kind Regards
