BATS THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK
BATS will be presenting this historic, moving play on September 25th, 26th & 27th. Anne and her family have moved from Germany to Holland. With the German occupation taking effect on the Jewish population, Anne's father decides they would be safer hiding in the roof area of a warehouse in Amsterdam. He trusts the Dutch people who work in the building and the plan works ...until...
BATS PLAY FESTIVAL - BATS 20th Annual Play Festival takes place on the 1st November 2008, in Brantham Village Hall. Several companies will compete for fourteen awards. This is open to colleges and schools and we hope this year that more will take part.
RSBP WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY & COLOURING COMPETITION
We are organising wildlife photography and colouring competitions for children and teenagers in Suffolk and Essex. Anyone who is aged less than 17 years on 31st August this year (the competition closing date) is eligible and can submit up to four photographs and/or colouring sheets. Entry is free and everyone entering will get a free poster or wildlife booklet.
For the photography competition, there are two age groups - 12-16 years and under 12 years. Over the summer holidays, you will have lots of opportunities to photograph wildlife - plants, flowers, trees, insects, frogs, birds, squirrels etc. They must be taken in Suffolk or Essex, but they don't have to be taken on a nature reserve. Why not start with your garden or the local park? If you look closely, you will find plenty to photograph without going far from home. Having said that, we are offering an extra prize for the best photograph taken on one of the RSPB reserves in Suffolk or Essex. Apart from Wolves Wood (Hadleigh) and Stour Wood (Wrabness), there are RSPB reserves a little further away. If you are not sure where they are, check out our web-site: www.rspb.org.uk
The colouring competition, for which there is a choice of garden birds to colour in, is open to those aged under 9 at 31st August, and you may also enter the photography competition if you wish.

"Mystery of Memorial Stones through Time" is the title of our autumn lectures by Elwyn Morris. He surveys the development of funeral craftsmanship through time from the
earliest prehistoric to modern tombstones of today, a 5000 year period. Elwyn Morris has spoken to us before and he has a very wide knowledge of his subject.
All lectures start at 7.30 pm at Brantham Methodist Church Hall, Gravel Pit Lane. The cost will be £43.00 for each course.
Brantham Garage Sale 2008
Firstly many thanks to the Bugle for your kind support in helping publicise this annual event. Also a huge thanks to massive public support we received.
This was a record year, despite the inclement weather, not only for the number of stall holders, but also for number of visitors and the amazing amount of money raised.
In total the sale raised a staggering £1762 to be split between St Elizabeth Hospice Fund - The Carla Dawson Tribute Fund and Arthritis Research Campaign. In addition to this one stall holders raised £160 for the East Anglian Children's Hospice, whilst another donated their entire takings to the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
We're already looking forward to next year!!
The Thunderball Rally UK 2008
The Thunderball Rally UK 2008 went ahead for the third time on the 21st June 2008.
The car rally was run for EACH the East Anglia's Children's Hospices. In the early hours of Saturday morning 12-30am with 7 cars assembled on the start line out side 31, Cedar Close, Brantham, there was a true Cannonball atmosphere. ‘Sorry, but Burt Reynolds again didn't turn up.' At 01-00hours the start time of the rally, Amanda Saxby ‘marshal' gave the drivers their destination instruction pack and refreshment goodie bag.
A fantastic vocal count-down, with families, friends and neighbors all joining in with the count-down. One at a time the cars left Cedar Close they were heading for Portmeirion north Wales, for the Hotel ‘Castell Deuraeth' with maps and torches trying to find the shortest distance to Portmeirion and return to Brantham. After arriving at our destination we rested and chatted with the other drivers, then went down into Cynlluny Pentref village. This was the film location set for ‘The Prisoner' TV film series in 1967 starring Patrick McGoohan.
The return run through Wales was heavy rain, on reaching Birmingham M6 the rain stopped and it was dry for the rest of the way to Brantham.
All drivers arrived back at Cedar Close in a tired state. Readings from the odometers were logged and calculated. In the evening there was a party, presentations were made to all of the drivers and to our team of rally helpers each receiving a cloth badge depicting the event in embroidery. A large card cheque for £1,500-00 was photographed for ‘EACH' this amount is very approximate as there is more to come.
The first prize went to Chris and Matthew Ager with 538 miles.
Special thanks to:- The staff of Castell Deudraeth Hotel, Clearscore Digital & Screen Printers and Signmakers, Ian Press, Ipswich Co-op Charity Dividend Fund, John Grose, Peter & Sue Haddon, Valerie Van Walwyk, Pat & Ivan, Millie & Amanda Saxby, Lucy Bailey, David Ager, Jonathon Saxby and Maureen Fuller.
