August September 2008: News - Parish Council

Life never goes quite according to plan and for me that means I've had another trip to the fracture clinic, this time with number one son who fell out with a cricket ball and for the fact that there will be NO Summer Break for the Parish Council who will meet as normal on the first Wednesday in August. Therefore you would be right in assuming that the there are a number of issues, which the Parish Council needs to discuss.

VILLAGE OF THE YEAR:

Liz Dunnett and I met with the judges from the Village of the Year Competition on 17th June 2008. Although Brantham came fifth out of the nine entries (a vast improvement on bottom place last time we entered) the judges were very impressed with the amount of community spirit in the village. Due to our hard working litter pickers the village looked clean and presentable and I think we should proud of how well we did!!

BRANTHAM INDUSTRIAL SITE:

The revised Planning Position Statement for Brantham Industrial Site has now been produced and presented to Babergh District Council's Development Committee for consideration. At this stage it is merely a statement and not a planning application. However, the Parish Council has written to Rich Cooke, Planning Policy Manager to request that the Parish Council is kept up to date at all stages in order to ensure that any development is right for Brantham. It is likely that this will be a long-term process. Details of the statement can be found on Babergh's website which is http://www.babergh.gov.uk/.

UNITARY LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN SUFFOLK:

Most of you will have seen in the papers details about the proposed boundary review for Suffolk and the fact that Brantham would be part of Ipswich's unitary authority. The Parish Council has been invited to attend a presentation on 17th July when is it hoped that more information will be available. The consultation period end's on 26th September 2008 by which time the Parish Council will have had the opportunity to discuss how this re-structure will affect Brantham. We will keep you inform.

NEW SPORTS EQUIPMENT:

The Parish Council has recently been lucky enough to secure funding from Babergh District Council for some new sports equipment. Following on from discussions with youths in the village and at their request it is hoped that the Parish Council will shortly be able to purchase new basketball posts/nets and football goals. The Parish Council is currently in negotiation with Brantham Management Limited as to where these would be best sited but it is anticipated that they should ready for use by September.

POPPY APPEAL CO-ORDINATOR:

The current Poppy Appeal Co-ordinator who is due to retire has approached the Parish Council for help in finding a replacement. If there is anyone who thinks they would be able to do the job then please give me a ring on 01206 393652.

PLANNING MEETINGS:

The planning committee meets at the Village Hall, New Village on the fourth Wednesday of every month to discuss all planning applications received. Members of the public are welcome to attend and would be very welcome. If you think a planning application will affect you in any way and would like the Parish Council to help this is an ideal opportunity. Once a planning application has been approved it is very difficult for the Parish Council to become involved. The next meetings are on Wednesday 27th August and Wednesday 24th September 2008 starting at 7.30pm. Planning applications will be on view from 7.00pm.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS:

Contrary to previously stated in past editions of the Bugle the Parish Council will now be meeting on Wednesday 6th August 2008 at Brantham Village Hall at 7.30pm and again on Wednesday 3rd September 2008 - no peace for the wicked!!  All members of the public are welcome to attend and there is always a public session prior to the start of the meeting.

I hope you all have a good summer and for any of you going of holiday - have a great time.

We look forward to seeing some of you at our monthly meetings.
